On May 1st, 2019, Senate Bill 96 Police, Fire, and Search and Rescue Dogs and Police Horses was signed into law. This bill increases the penalty for intentionally and knowingly causing great bodily harm, permanent disability, or death to, or using a deadly weapon upon, police canines or horses, fire canines, or SAR canines, etc.
